Can I translate my own Portuguese document and certify it myself?
You can, but then you are the one signing the certification for your own Portuguese document, and any fix after a rejection is on you. When we do it, Ivy signs the Certificate of Accuracy that goes with the translation, and if USCIS rejects the translation because of our work we correct it free within 24 hours or refund your order in full. Does a certified Portuguese to English translation have to be done by an ATA-certified translator?
No. USCIS does not require an ATA-certified translator, and certified here describes the translation, not a credential the translator carries. The rule asks for a signed statement from someone competent in Portuguese and English, and Ivy is a native Portuguese speaker who signs every certification herself. Is a tradução juramentada from Brazil the same as a certified translation for USCIS?
No. A tradução juramentada is a Brazilian sworn translation, and it is not what USCIS asks for. What USCIS wants is the English translation with a signed certification of completeness and accuracy under 8 CFR 103.2(b)(3), which is what we send with every Portuguese document we translate. Does a certified Portuguese to English translation need to be notarized?
No, USCIS does not require notarization for translated documents, so we do not add that step or charge you for it. A notary confirms who signed a page, not whether the Portuguese was translated correctly. Your order comes with a signed Certificate of Accuracy meeting 8 CFR 103.2(b)(3) instead.
