Brazilian passport translation for USCIS: usually not needed

Brazilian passport translation for USCIS is a purchase most people do not need to make: the modern Brazilian passport's bio page is printed in Portuguese, English, and French. Here is when a translation genuinely is required, and what it costs when it is.

Why the bio page usually passes as is

Brazilian passports issued since 2010 carry the holder's data trilingually, so an officer reads the bio page without help. That is why passport translation rarely appears on USCIS checklists, and why we tell you this before selling you one.

When a translation IS the right call

Stamps, visas, and handwritten annotations inside the booklet are not trilingual, and filings that rely on travel history, continuous presence, or old entries sometimes need those pages in English. Pre-2010 passports and certidões attached to passport applications also come up. When an office asks, what it wants is a certified translation of the specific pages.

Pages priced like everything else

Each translated page is $19, up to 250 words, with the signed certification attached. Often the better answer is translating the document behind the question instead: the birth certificate or RG that actually proves identity.

Every order is translated by Ivy, who grew up reading these documents in Brazil, and arrives with her signed Certificate of Accuracy, the exact certification USCIS asks for.

Questions

Common questions

USCIS asked for a copy of my passport. Does that mean a translation?

Usually it means a legible copy of the bio page, which is already readable in English. If the notice explicitly says translation, it will name the pages; translate exactly those.

Do you translate old caderneta-style passports?

Yes, older green passports and their stamps translate page by page like any document, with each stamp described in place.
